Yajie Wang, 26
Yajie Wang is a China-born flutist based in Germany and currently serves as permanent principal flute of the Bergische Symphoniker, a position she assumed at the age of 23. She is an internationally awarded soloist and began studying flute at the age of seven, winning First Prize at the National Youth Music Competition in Beijing one year later. After attending the Idyllwild Arts Academy in the United States, she moved to Germany at sixteen to pursue her Bachelor’s degree at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim. She completed her Master’s degree with Prof. Davide Formisano in Stuttgart and is currently pursuing the Konzertexamen at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media with Prof. Anna Dina Björn-Larsen. Yajie is a prizewinner of numerous international competitions, including the Friedrich Kuhlau International Flute Competition (First Prize and Special Prize, 2023), Severino Gazzelloni International Flute Competition (2018), Città di Chieri International Music Competition, Swiss International Music Competition, China National Flute Competition, American Protégé Music Competition (Carnegie Hall debut), and the Mozart Society Kurpfalz Soloist Prize. As a soloist, she has appeared with the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra, the Bergische Symphoniker, and the Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester. She is a scholarship holder of Live Music Now and a three-time recipient of the InterStip scholarship. From 2017, she served as principal flutist of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie and the National Youth Orchestra of China. She was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival Orchestra (2019), associate principal flutist of the Staatsorchester Braunschweig (2022/23), and has appeared as guest solo flutist with the Hamburg State Orchestra, the Stuttgart State Orchestra, and the South Westphalia Philharmonic.
