Judy Lee, 21
Judy Jeongyeon Lee discovered the flute at the age of 10 and quickly stood out by winning numerous national competitions in Korea. Just a year after starting the flute, she was selected through the Kumho Young Artist Audition and made her debut recital at Kumho Art Hall in 2016. At age 16, she was accepted into the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP), where she is currently pursuing a Master’s degree. She is a laureate of several prestigious international competitions, including a Special Prize at the Geneva International Competition, 1st Prize in the Artistic Program category at the Maxence Larrieu International Flute Competition, 2nd Prize and a Special Prize at the Theobald Böhm International Flute Competition, and 1st Prize at the Léopold Bellan International Competition. Notably, at age 13, she won the Severino Gazzelloni International Flute Competition, becoming the youngest winner in the competition’s history. In 2017, she was selected as a Rising Star at the Gonjiam Music Festival (GMF) and went on to perform with the Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Philippe Bernold at Seoul Arts Center in 2018. That same year, she was named a Global Music Partnership (GMP) Artist and performed at Carnegie Hall in New York. She also appeared at the Santander Festival in Spain, performing in a flute quintet with renowned flutist Patrick Gallois. She is invited as a guest artist at the Tampere Flute Festival in Finland and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Flöte in Germany. Judy Jeongyeon Lee also conceived and presented the artistic project “Three Korean Traditional Dance Pieces for Flute and Janggu.” This project includes both arrangements and original compositions inspired by Korean traditional music. It explores rhythms and melodies from Korean folk heritage, reimagined for flute and janggu, a traditional Korean percussion instrument. This program was created in collaboration with percussionist Basile Peuvion and premiered in Nice, France, in October 2024.
