ODENSE SYMHONY ORCHESTRA

The audition will take place in the concert hall, Odense, Friday 27th February 2026
Odense Symphony Orchestra is looking for a 3rd solo cellist, with focus on the applicant’s outstanding technical and musical profile and soloistic presentation, broad knowledge of repertoire and style, as well as an open and cooperative attitude. We are looking for a 3rd solo cellist who can find joy in working both in the 3rd solo position and can also excel as 2nd or 1st solo.

The jury reserves the right to invite a limited number of applicants.

Invited applicants will be notified by email on the 30th January 2026
The orchestra will provide an accompanist for the audition.
Travel and accommodation are at the applicant’s own expense.

1st round to be played behind a screen.

1st round:
Joseph Haydn: Cello Concerto No.1 in C Major, Hob.VIIb/1 First Movement – exposition and development with cadenza Second movement – complete

OR

Joseph Haydn: Cello Concerto No. 2 in D Major Hob.Vllb/2 First Movement – exposition and development with cadenza Second movement – complete

2nd round:
Antonin Dvorak: Cello Concerto in B Major, Op. 104
First movement

OR

Robert Schumann: Cello Concerto in a minor, op. 129 First movement

3rd round:
Chamber music
W.A. Mozart: String Quartet No. 19 in C major, K. 465
First movement

All rounds will contain orchestra excerpts. Orchestra excerpts will be available online at the beginning of January 2026

Salaries and working conditions are in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Musicians Union and Dansk Erhverv.
This amounts to:
3rd solo 32.580,56 DKK/month.
Pension: 18,00 %

Applicants with citizenship other than EU/EØS are responsible for obtaining valid residence and work permits
by the time of employment in Denmark.

Odense Symphony Orchestra is a regional orchestra with 65 musicians and a technical-/administrative staff of
17 employees. The orchestra is based in Odense Concert Hall and has an annual audience of approx. 85.000.
The core activity is the performance of symphonic concerts. In addition to this the orchestra’s schedule includes
school and family concerts, church and chamber concerts, opera performances and CD recordings. The
orchestra tours regularly in Denmark and abroad. The annual budget is approx. 60 million DKK.
