FLUTE
8 – 16 junE 2026 in Odense – Save the Date

The aim of the Carl Nielsen Competition is to discover the soloists of tomorrow on three instruments
– violin, clarinet, and flute –
the instruments for which Carl Nielsen wrote a concerto for each.

In 2026, it will be the flutists’ turn to compete.

The Nielsen Competition aims to deepen awareness of Carl Nielsen’s music and to inspire new generations to take up an instrument and share in the joy of making music.

Applications open 8 December 2025 and close 1 February 2026 – link to the application site will open here soon. 

The competition is open for flutists from all over the world, under the age of 30 on the first day of the competition. Applicants must be born on or after 8 June 1996.

An application fee of EUR 75 will be charged, to be  paid by credit card.

Applicants must submit three recordings for the Pre-Jury to evaluate and select a total of 24 candidates to be invited to the competition in June 2026.

1. Georg Philipp Telemann: from 12 Fantasias for Solo Flute, TWV 40:2–13
 Choose one of the following:  No. 3  —  No. 9  —  No. 11 —  No. 12

2. Benjamin Godard:
Valse (3rd movement) from Suite de trois morceaux, Op. 116

3. Siegfried Karg-Elert:
Chaconne for Flute, Op. 107, No. 3
