– MOZART’S REQUIEM
The very dramatic circumstances, which surrounded the making of Mozart’s very last piece, has strengthened the fascination of this beautiful work in a repertoire. Mozart was on his deathbed and was fighting for time to be able to finish the piece, which had been ordered by a strange Count who wished to present the piece as his own, and it is hard to believe the quality of what Mozart managed to achieve in the last weeks of his far too short life. Come to OS and listen to 300 high school students as they bring life to Mozart’s swansong with a concert that also presents living geniuses such as John Williams, who has been immortalized for his iconic music in films such as Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones and many others. Tonight, he will be performing a rare tuba concerto where our very own tubist, Carl Boye Hansen, will naturally be the focus. The, perhaps, biggest living American music star, Philip Glass, thrilled the audience in the previous season with his double concert for cello and violin. Tonight, his swinging Harmonium Mountain will be standing side by side with William’s heart wrenching theme to Schindler’s List.
